Childhood obesity is one of the most urgent and serious health threats confronting our nation. About 25 million kids and teens in the United States are overweight or obese. Unless we take action now to reverse this alarming trend, we're in danger of raising the first generation of American children who will live sicker and die younger than their parents' generation. Hearty was created to help combat the childhood obesity epidemic by teaching children about eating right and exercising using music as the messenger.

Who better to teach children about the environment than a butterfly named Eco? As with all of the Music as Message cast of characters, important information is taught through music. Eco will teach kids about the 3Rs... reduce, reuse and recycle, as well as other ways to be environmentally responsible.

rotary four way test
While not a character, the Rotary Four Way Test products are yet another example of using music to teach children important messages. Ross took an existing coloring book developed by a Rotary Club in Georgia and produced a direct read CD (complete with character voices, sound effects and original music).

When Ross met Dr. Will Sawyer, the creator of Henry the Hand Champion Handwasher and the Hand Awareness Program, Dr. Will needed some music to reinforce his important messages. Rather than reinventing the wheel, Ross obtained permission from the publisher to use the music to the Hand Jive song (popularized by Johnny Otis' 1958) and rewrite the lyrics.
